Create and manage a manufacturing order (MO)

Create one or several manufacturing orders, apply properties, trace the configuration (definition and process), and attach the production file.

Written by Valentin Coquant

In this article, you'll learn how to:

  • Create one or several manufacturing orders (MO),

  • Apply properties to them and attach their production file,

  • Read and manage the configuration traceability of each MO.

What is a manufacturing order for?

A manufacturing order (MO) represents the physical instance of a product, also called a serial number. It's the object that lets you track, unit by unit, what was actually produced.

  • Each MO can be linked to a definition index and a manufacturing process index, ensuring full traceability of the delivered configuration.

  • MOs are usually synchronized automatically in Aletiq through an ERP integration, but can also be managed manually.

In practice, you always know which definition and which process apply to a given unit: a key asset for audits, after-sales service, and non-conformity management.

Create an MO

  1. Go to the Manufacturing orders tab of an article, or to the page of MOs linked to an article or tooling,

  2. Click + New MO,

  3. Fill in the form, then click Create.

💡 You can create several MOs at once by separating each ID with a comma , — handy for launching a full batch in a single action.

Apply properties to an MO

Fill in the information specific to each unit (batch, date, quality status…) to track your MOs against your own business criteria.

  1. Go to the Manufacturing orders tab of an article, or to the page of linked MOs,

  2. Select one or more MOs to edit,

  3. Click Edit a property, choose the property and then the value to apply,

  4. Confirm the change.

💡 Multi-selection lets you apply the same value to several MOs at once.

Trace the configuration of each MO

For each MO, Aletiq keeps the definition and manufacturing process that were actually applied. You therefore retain a faithful picture of what was produced, even after the definition or process evolves.

Read the traceability

  • Go to the Manufacturing orders page of an article, or to the page of MOs linked to products,

  • Display the native Applicable definition or Applicable manufacturing properties if needed,

  • Click an MO's definition index or manufacturing index to jump straight to the matching configuration.

Change the applied definition or process

To update the configuration of one or several MOs:

  • Go to the MO page of the relevant article,

  • Select the MO(s) to update,

  • Click Edit definition index or Edit process index,

  • Choose the new index and confirm.

✅ This action sets the application rank of a new definition or manufacturing process: you trace precisely from which unit a change takes effect.

Attach the production file to an MO

Attach to each MO the documents that prove its conformity (deviation sheet, non-conformity report, production file…). This lets you reconstruct the complete history of the unit whenever needed.

  1. Go to the Manufacturing orders tab of an article, or to the page of linked MOs,

  2. Open the detail panel of an MO,

  3. In the Files tab (right-hand panel), select the file, choose a type, then confirm the upload.

💡 Files attached to MOs can be found through Quick search, in the "Files" section.

Everyday tips

  • A Copy button lets you grab an MO's ID or name in one click, to paste it quickly into a message or another tool.

  • The MO's description is included in the CSV export, for your analyses outside the application.
