Introduction to Project Management

Basic concepts to help you get started with project management in Aletiq

💡 Aletiq projects are designed to support long and complex business processes — new product development, responding to a request for proposal, designing a new tooling series... More complete than workflows, they bring together tasks, milestones, deliverables and dependencies, all planned over time.

🤷 What is a project?

A project is a collection of tasks, milestones and deliverables, scheduled over time. Choose a project over a workflow when your process:

  • Generates a large number of deliverables

  • Involves complex dependencies between tasks

  • Requires temporal visualisation (Gantt)

You can access all your projects by clicking the Projects button in Aletiq's blue navigation ribbon.

Who does what?

  • Only an Admin can create and modify a project template

  • Admins, Managers and Viewers can be assigned as owners of tasks or milestones

  • The project owner can edit tasks (deadlines, deliverables) without being assigned to each individual one

  • An Admin can complete tasks or approve milestones on behalf of others in case of absence

  • A Viewer can only act on tasks they are responsible for — they cannot add deliverables

The Projects homepage

The homepage lists all projects launched in Aletiq. Create views to filter the display (ongoing projects, projects you are responsible for...). The selected view is reflected in the page URL — you can copy the link and send it directly to a colleague. 🔗

The page offers two display modes:

  • 📋 List — tabular view with status and completion rate for each project

  • 📅 Timeline — global Gantt view of all your projects on a time axis, ideal for portfolio reviews and for quickly spotting overlaps or busy periods

Project page

The project page brings together all key information: name, status, owner, progress, ongoing tasks and list of deliverables.

The status of a project can be managed automatically (calculated from task progress) or manually by the owner.

Tasks tab — Gantt chart

The Tasks tab provides a Gantt chart view of tasks and milestones, including their dependencies. Ideal for anticipating bottlenecks and tracking progress in real time.

Linked objects

The Documents, Parts and Products tabs let you view and add Aletiq objects linked to the project — handy for centralising all deliverables in one place.

🔔 Notifications

You receive a notification when:

  • A project task is assigned to you

  • You can start a task (dependencies cleared)

  • A task deadline is approaching

Glossary

  • Task — a time-planned activity, with duration, status and assignee

  • Milestone — like a task, but with zero duration (a checkpoint)

  • Deliverable — the expected output of a task or milestone, filled with a document or CAD part

  • Dependency — a link between two tasks: the dependent task cannot start until the previous one is completed
