What is a Product?

A Product in Aletiq centralises all technical documentation for a physical object throughout its lifecycle (design, production, quality, versions). It can be an item (finished product/component) or a tool (internal product used to manufacture items).

πŸ’‘ The Product differs from its manufactured instances, the Production Orders in Aletiq.

Create a new product

In Aletiq, you can create a product in 4️⃣ ways:

1️⃣ Create a blank product, then gradually add new objects (parts, documents, workflows, projects, etc.) or link existing objects in Aletiq to it.

πŸ‘‰ From the home page

πŸ‘‰ From the Products section

2️⃣ If you start with an object that already exists in Aletiq β€” usually a CAD file β€” you can automatically create the associated product from that object.

πŸ‘‰ Create a product associated with your CAD part

πŸ‘‰ Create multiple products in just a few clicks, each associated with its CAD part.

πŸ’‘ The parts selected above will be automatically linked to the articles.

3️⃣ Create the complete eBOM for a product linked to an assembly-type part in just a few clicks.

πŸ’‘ For an assembly (validated or draft) without an associated product, you can create its product and all products linked to its CAD parts in just a few clicks, saving time on eBOM creation and automating links.

4️⃣ From an ERP interface

It is possible to automatically synchronise products (items/tools) by exchanging data between an ERP and Aletiq, in either direction. This process, which varies depending on the context and requirements, must be defined and implemented in collaboration with the Aletiq teams.

How to link data to a product?

Aletiq's PLM facilitates the rapid and reliable contextualisation of technical documentation in relation to the product, ensuring traceability and consistency throughout the lifecycle.

⚠️ Here, we will only discuss the link between a document or part and its product. To learn more about the link between a document or part and a product definition, see the article Create and modify a product definition to further your understanding of product definitions.

πŸ‘‰ Link a part to an existing product

πŸ‘‰ Link a part to a new product

πŸ’‘ When you create a new product from the detail pane of a part (regardless of its type), the part is automatically linked to the product in the Parts space but also linked to its definition in CadBOM.

πŸ‘‰ Link a document to an existing product

πŸ’‘ Documents can only be linked to existing products (unlike parts). They therefore do not automatically appear in product definition documents.
